Two people were rushed to hospital with minor injuries in a crash that has snapped a power pole and shut down Sooke Road for hours.

Drive BC reported around 4:45 p.m. Friday that Sooke Road was shut down in both directions near Happy Valley Road for a crash.

According to a BC Hydro official on scene, two drivers collided on Sooke Road, sending one careening into a power pole and then a driveway.

Photos and video from the scene show a smashed fence and an SUV on its side as first responders attend to a person who appears trapped in the vehicle.

Both drivers were taken to hospital with what officials described as minor, non-life threatening injuries.

A BC Hydro official at the scene said power lines in the area would need to be shut down as crews dealt with the broken power pole.

Drive BC estimated that the road wouldn't be reopened until around 11 p.m. Friday night.

The exact cause of the crash is unclear.
