Investigators on the Saanich Peninsula are searching for a man whose boat washed up in a bay in the Saanich Inlet on Wednesday – and who is feared to have gone overboard.

Cowichan/North Duncan RCMP say the eight-foot zodiac washed up in Deep Cove Bay, on the western side of the peninsula.

They later determined the inflatable boat is owned by 42-year-old Daniel Borthwick, who usually lives on a vessel moored in Cowichan Bay.

Mounties have attempted to locate Borthwick with no luck, and worry he may have fallen off the zodiac.

The Joint Rescue Coordination Centre, 442 squadron, the Canadian Coast Guard and the RCMP's West Coast Marine unit have been conducting searches by air and water, but have so far not found the missing man.

He was last seen in Cowichan Bay on Tuesday taking picture of seals, according to RCMP.

Borthwick is described as white, about 5'8" tall with a heavy build and brown, curly balding hair and full beard.
