Mounties canvassed an area in Qualicum Beach on Wednesday after a 70-year-old woman woke up to find a man in her bedroom.
The incident happened at a home on Willow Road around 4 a.m.
Police say a short struggle ensued when the woman noticed the man and he took off before officers arrived.
A police dog searched the area, but couldn’t locate a track.
It’s believed the man gained entry through an unlocked garage door, officials say.
He’s described as 5’8” to 5’10” with a stocky build and may have been wearing a flat hat like a tam or beret.
Mounties say with the warmer weather, homeowners should be cautious with leaving exterior doors and windows unlocked.
