Victoria drivers are going to have to practice their patience when trying to cross the Johnson Street Bridge for two weeks starting Monday.

The city says preparation for paving work between Wharf Street and the new bridge will get underway Monday, and drivers and cyclists should expect congestion between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. until Aug. 12. due to periodic lane closures.

The preparation work will culminate in final paving on Aug. 13, when the bridge and road approaches between Harbour Road and Wharf Street will be closed from about 5:30 a.m. to 11 p.m.

The city says despite the paving, pedestrian and cyclist connections between downtown and Victoria West will be maintained.

Advance warning signs will be posted up in the area advising drivers of the traffic pattern changes.

The city is recommending drivers consider alternate routes to avoid delays while work is underway.

It said the work is being done in the busy summer months to take advantage of favourable weather conditions.
