The Emergency Response Team was called to a building on Fort Street on Saturday after police received reports of a break-and-enter.

VicPD officers were seen going in and out of a door near the Masala Bites restaurant.

They appeared in an office space above the business.

A sales associate in the area said she saw a man walk out of a door across the street, officers followed around 4:45 p.m. and their presence only grew from there.

“They taped off a good portion of the area as well, but they were still letting traffic down Fort [Street],” said Lisa Ash. “I just found it strange to have so many officers with the guns and the dogs and for people to be allowed to be right out front like this.”

Police aren’t saying how many people were involved or if anyone was hurt or arrested.

VicPD cleared the scene at approximately 10 p.m.

Police have been tight-lipped about the situation, saying they would provide an update in the coming days.
