BC Ferries is adding extra sailings to help people get home for the holidays this Christmas.

More than 135 additional sailings will be added to major routes, 98 of which will be added to the high-traffic Tsawwassen-Swartz Bay route alone.

Thirty-eight sailings have been added between Horseshoe Bay and Departure Bay.

The additional sailings take effect between Dec. 21 and Jan. 3.

The heaviest traffic is expected on Dec. 23 and Dec. 26-28, with BC Ferries estimating Dec. 27 to be the busiest travel day of the holiday season.

Schedules have also been expanded for all routes connecting with Horseshoe Bay to allow more in-dock time.
