A 23-year-old man was arrested after his vehicle rolled over into a front yard in Saanich, briefly trapping him inside early Monday morning.

The single-vehicle crash happened at Quadra Street and Tattersall Drive just after midnight.

A patrol officer who was stopped at the intersection saw the vehicle heading north on Quadra Street at a high rate of speed, according to police.

The vehicle appeared to brake hard, causing it to careen over a sidewalk and flip onto its roof.

It then came to a stop in some bushes in front of a home in the 3500-block of Quadra.

The officer rushed over to help get the lone occupant out of the vehicle and called in Saanich Fire and the BC Ambulance Service to assist.

Paramedics rushed the driver, a Victoria man, to hospital with minor injuries.

The man has been charged with dangerous driving and was released from custody on a promise to appear in court at the end of October.
