A man is dead and a woman was rushed to hospital with serious injuries following a crash on the Trans-Canada Highway Tuesday.

Police say the 56-year-old Duncan man was driving a 2005 Toyota Tundra on the Trans-Canada Highway at around 6:40 p.m. when he collided with a vehicle at Mays Road.

A 56-year-old Ladysmith woman driving a 2016 Ford Fusion suffered significant injuries in the crash and was taken to hospital.

It’s unclear exactly what happened, but witnesses told police the truck was heading southbound on the highway and turning left onto Mays Road when it crashed with the northbound Ford.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation by RCMP and the BC Coroners Service.

According to Mounties, a number of citizens stopped to assist those involved in the crash.

They say RCMP victim services is available to anyone who may need assistance.
