The Vancouver Island town of Ladysmith has managed a slight reprieve from a stinky problem.

Officials have reached an agreement to ship biosolids to a composting facility in Comox, while the Ladysmith composting facility is moved to a new site.

But the transfer agreement only runs for five weeks and moving Ladysmith's composting site will take much longer, so the town is searching for another place willing to take its smelly garbage.

Ladysmith is working toward the purchase of a new location for its biosolids but, in the meantime, has agreed to stop processing the materials at its Public Works yard, which is close to homes as well as an elementary and secondary school.
