Four police officers were injured and a man was tasered during a violent incident at tent city on Thursday.

Police say two special duty officers assigned to the camp heard what they thought was a domestic assault in one of the tents around 7:20 p.m.

When the officers intervened, police say they were assaulted by a man.

Multiple police units then descended on the encampment and two other officers were assaulted.

Police used a taser to subdue a man who was then arrested.

“They responded in an appropriate way, we used a taser to be able to gain compliance of the male and take him into custody in a safe manner. Unfortunately I’m disappointed to say that four of our members got hurt,” Cst. Matt Rutherford told CTV News.

All of the officers suffered non-life threatening injuries and three of them were taken to hospital for treatment.

Police are recommending four charges of assaulting a police officer, possession of a prohibited weapon, assault and resisting arrest.

The man, who is known to police, was held in custody overnight. Police say he wasn’t injured and is set to appear in court Friday.
