More than a dozen firefighters are responding to a wildfire northeast of Campbell River.

The Coastal Fire Centre says the fire is on West Redonda Island, near Teakerne Arm Provincial Park.

The fire is about two-and-a-half hectares in size.

Thirteen firefighters and three helicopters are battling the blaze.

The fire is not contained, but officials say there aren’t any neighbourhoods at risk.

The fire centre is reminding the public that the coastal region remains under extreme fire risk and people need to be cautious.
