Parts of the Capital Region woke up to frost today as temperatures and dew points were around the freezing mark in the early hours of the morning.

If there’s going to be any stormy weather this week, it won’t be over Vancouver Island.

The main feature influencing our weather this week is high pressure anchored over central B.C. The strong ridge associated with it is deflecting a frontal system to the north coast, giving mainly dry conditions to the island through Friday.

The only hints of precipitation begin Wednesday, with a slight chance of drizzle or showers. Thursday and Friday Port Hardy may see a few showers as the front slips south towards north Vancouver Island.

The rest of the island will remain dry.

Temperatures are right on seasonal average this week, with daytime highs around 7°C and overnight lows dipping to around 1°C.

There’s a slight warming trend in the alpine as freezing levels rise to 1,700 metres by the weekend, so temperatures will bump up to around 9-10°C in some areas.

Skiiers and snowboarders, don’t worry. The slightly milder conditions shouldn’t affect the snow at Mt. Washington Alpine Resort.

Today’s weather is perfect, with muted sunshine for skiing, snowboarding and tubing!
