A popular Duncan restaurant is back in business after it was destroyed by fire last year.

The White Spot officially opened its doors to the public on Monday.

“We had a lady phone us the night before,” managing owner, Marty Goliath, told CTV News. “They were waiting in the parking lot at five to six to be the first customer.”

The dining spot was a complete loss after a fire tore through the property in 2015.

The cause of the fire was never determined, but is believed to have started near the kitchen.

Half of the original staff have now been hired back.

“We’re a very tight-knit group here. We’ve had a number of employees that have been with us since the opening 21 years ago,” Goliath said.

Around $3 million was invested in renovating the new open concept dining area and a new state-of-the-art kitchen with nine computer screens.

“It’s a smart kitchen system. It’s pretty much an expediter, it alleviates all the pressure and times out the orders on when to make it, how not to make it,” said Nick Jeet, regional kitchen manager.

Only two days in business and so far the new hot spot has been packed with locals who’ve been eagerly awaiting the reopening.

“A lot of people come here and enjoy the service and the food,” one man said.
