A disciplinary hearing for former Victoria police chief Frank Elsner has been delayed again, this time so Elsner can hire a new lawyer after his previous one was appointed to the BC Supreme Court.

Elsner resigned from his position in May after he was suspended for sending sexually charged messages on Twitter to a wife of a subordinate police officer.

He is being investigated for allegations he contacted witnesses in the case despite being instructed not to, and gave misleading information during the course of the investigation.

On Monday, discipline authority Carol Baird Ellan granted Elsner's request to adjourn proceedings until Oct. 27 so he can hire new counsel.

A separate hearing over allegations of workplace harassment against Elsner is also scheduled for Oct. 30.

Two of the five allegations levied against Elsner were thrown out earlier this year by a B.C. Supreme Court Judge.

He remained suspended with pay for about a year until announcing his resignation in May.
