VIEW ROYAL - It was all hands on deck to capture two cows after they escaped a trailer being transported along the Trans Canada Highway, headed for a slaughterhouse in Duncan.

It happended shortly before noon on Tuesday.  People driving along the TCH near Helmcken captured photos of the cattle boldly jetting around the area.  West Shore RCMP shut down highway traffic in both directions while a massive chase ensued.

The last cow was finally captured in a View Royal backyard where CTV News caught up with the cows' owner.

"Somehow there was a pin that was removed from the tailgate of the trailer. I checked after they were loaded, and it was in place. After that, I stopped at one place, and from there I didn't know until the cows came out the back," said Don Alberg who was transporting five cows in the trailer, before two escaped.

Alberg owns a feedlot on Mount Douglas X Road in Saanich, which is the midst of a rezoning debate, and has been in the Alberg family for 70 years.
