Island Health and the municipality of North Cowichan issued a boil water advisory on Saturday for people living in Chemainus.

According to officials, the warning is a precautionary measure in response to turbidity levels that could pose a risk to public health.

People living in Chemainus are asked to boil their water for at least one minute before ingesting it.

The municipality says it’s still safe to wash clothes and bathe in the water without boiling it.

Signs are being posted around the community.

The boil water advisory will be in effect through the weekend.

An update will be issued by noon on Tuesday.
