The Canadian Food Inspection Agency and Sofino Foods Inc. have issued a recall of uncooked breaded chicken products over concerns they may be contaminated with Salmonella.

The CFIA says the products have already been linked to illnesses.

Customers who bought Compliments-brand chicken strips and chicken nuggets with a best before date of 2016 JA 22 should destroy the products and bring a receipt or product label back to where they were purchased for a refund.

In Western Canada, that includes Sobeys, Safeway, Thrifty Foods and IGA.

Kids, pregnant women, the elderly at those with weakened immune systems face the highest risk if they consume Salmonella-tainted food, according to the CFIA.

Symptoms associated with contaminated food include fever, headache, vomiting, nausea, cramps and diarrhea, while long-term complications could include severe arthritis.

The recall also affects No Name-brand frozen chicken burgers sold in Atlantic Canada, Ontario and Quebec.
