A three-year-old bulldog from Victoria in need of medical attention and a permanent home is back on the island following her first surgery.

Maggie has several medical issues, including numerous ear and eye issues. She was taken to Vancouver on Monday for surgery.

On Saturday, the Victoria BC SPCA branch told CTV News Maggie had her soft palate shortened, her nasal passages opened up, she was spayed and two hernias were repaired.

"She will stay with her foster home, complete a round of antibiotics and have some sutures out in 14 days," Nicole Reinelt said. "Maggie is doing well, but will need to recover one to two months before having her eye surgeries done in Victoria."

The total cost for Maggie’s medical care is expected to be more than $10,000.

The SPCA said it's hopeful the public can help Maggie get the care she needs.

“Maggie is such a sweetheart. She’s a total chair hog with her tongue always out,” branch manager Annie Prittie Bell said.

According to Prittie Bell, the medical conditions are common among the bulldog breed.

“Maggie is such a total doll. We just want her to have a chance to live a long and healthy life in a loving, forever home,” she added. “She’s got a lot of love to give and it’s impossible not to love her sweet face.”

The BC SPCA is a non-profit organization that depends primarily on public donations.

Following Maggie’s surgeries and recovery period she will be available for adoption.
